Submissions for Slippery Elm have closed!

se logoOur submission window has closed.  Thanks for submitting! We’re working hard to get everything read and winners will be announced in October.  While you’re waiting, check out last years issue!  Prizes of $1,000 will be awarded for one poem and one work of prose (story or essay). All entries will be considered for publication in Slippery Elm’s 2014 issue. Jeff Gundy will judge in poetry, and David James Poissant will judge in prose.

 

 

The 2014 Slippery Elm contest judges are Jeff Gundy and David James Poissant

Jeff Gundy’s sixth book of poems, Somewhere Near Defiance, is forthcoming from Anhinga in 2014. His fourth prose book, Songs from an Empty Cage: Poetry, Mystery, Anabaptism, and Peace, is just out from Cascadia. Other recent work is in Shenandoah, The Sun, The Georgia Review, Nimrod, and the anthology Making Poems. He teaches at Bluffton University in Ohio. He is also the poetry prize winner of the 2013 Slippery Elm Poetry Contest with is poem “Something the Winter Wren Didn’t Say”

David James Poissant’s stories and essays have appeared in The Atlantic, The Chicago Tribune, Glimmer Train, The New York Times, One Story, Playboy, Ploughshares, The Southern Review, and in the New Stories from the South and Best New American Voices anthologies. His writing has been awarded the Matt Clark Prize, the George Garrett Fiction Award, the RopeWalk Fiction Chapbook Prize, and the Alice White Reeves Memorial Award from the National Society of Arts & Letters, as well as awards from The Chicago Tribune and The Atlantic and Playboy magazines. He teaches in the MFA program at the University of Central Florida and lives in Orlando with his wife and daughters.
