M. B. McLatchey

M.B. McLatchey’s featured piece “A Purple Heart” is excerpted from her recently-completed educational memoir about a revolutionary teacher in a ship-building town outside Boston during the 1960’s. Additional excerpts were awarded the Niven Award in Creative Nonfiction and were published in MEMOIR(and). She is the author of two books of poetry, The Lame God (Utah State University Press) for which she won the May Swenson Award and Advantages of Believing (Finishing Line Press). An Associate Professor of Humanities at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Florida, McLatchey holds degrees in Comparative Literature, in Teaching, and in English studies from Harvard University, Brown University, and Williams College as well as the MFA from Goddard College. Her poetry and prose have appeared in several journals and she has received numerous literary awards, including the 2015 Poet Laureate for Florida’s Volusia County and the 2011 American Poet Prize.
